Manfred Junker, geboren 1969 in Leutkirch,
spielt seit dem 12. Lebensjahr Gitarre. Nach klassischem Gitarrenunterricht
und frühen Rockbands zieht es ihn mit sechzehn immer mehr zum Jazz,
es folgen ein Jazzduo mit dem damaligen Lehrer und erste Konzerte.
Von 1991 bis 1995 studiert er an der Jazzschule St.Gallen bei Peter Eigenmann.
Anschliessend erhält er ein Berklee-Stipendium und führt sein
Studium am Berklee College of Music in Boston weiter. Nach Unterricht
bei renommierten Lehrern (Hal Crook, Ed Tomassi, Rick Peckham, Jim Kelly)
und Auftritt bei der Konferenz der "International Association of
Jazz Educators" in Atlanta (01/1996) schliesst er im selben Jahr
das Diplom mit "summa cum laude" ab.
Zurück in Deutschland zieht Manfred Junker nach Konstanz, unterrichtet
seither in der Schweiz (Musikschule Wil) und spielt vor allem mit seinem
Quartett, aber auch in anderen Formationen (Duo bis Bigband) regelmässig
Konzerte.
Stilistisch fusst sein Spiel und seine Kompositionen zunächst im
Bop, hat sich aber in den letzten Jahren sehr erweitert - Junkers Auseinandersetzung
mit Geschichte und Gegenwart von Jazz und verwandten Musikstilen haben
deutliche Spuren hinterlassen und machen Schubladendenken sinnlos.
Bislang sieben eigene CDs festigen seinen Ruf als Bandleader und Komponisten,
der beharrlich und kompromisslos seinen Weg geht (Dig it! (1997), Moving
on...(1999), Cole Porter Live! (2001), Directions(2003), ...meeting Mr.Rodgers(2005),
Peace of mind (2006), Eternally - Music by Charlie Chaplin(2008)).

Manfred Junker was born in Leutkirch, Germany in 1969, and has
been playing guitar since the age of 12. Following classical guitar lessons
and early rock bands, he became increasingly drawn to jazz from the age
of sixteen. A jazz duo followed with his teacher at that time, and the
first concerts.
From 1991 to 1995, he studied at the Jazz School in St.Gallen under Peter
Eigenmann. This was followed by a Berklee Scholarship which enabled him
to continue his studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After
being taught by renowned teachers (Hal Crook, Ed Tomassi, Rick Peckham,
Jim Kelly) and a performance at the Conference of the "International
Association of Jazz Educators" in Atlanta in January, 1996, he graduated
"summa cum laude" in the same year.
Returning to Germany, he moved to Constance and since then has been teaching
at the Music School in Wil, Switzerland. His regular concert performances
are mainly with his quartet, but also in other formations from duos to
big band.
Primarily, his style and compositions are based on bop, but they have
broadened considerably in recent years. Manfred Junker’s preoccupation
with jazz of both the past and present, and related musical styles has
clearly left their mark, making it impossible to pigeonhole him.
His seven CDs to date strengthen his reputation as a band leader and composer
going his own way, determined and uncompromising (Dig it! (1997), Moving
on...(1999), Cole Porter Live! (2001), Directions (2003),...meeting Mr.Rodgers(2005),
Peace of mind (2006), Eternally - Music by Charlie Chaplin(2008)).

Manfred Junker, né à
Leutkirch en 1969, joue de la guitare depuis l´âge de 12 ans.
Il prend des cours de guitare – un enseignement d´orientation
classique -, fait partie de jeunes groupes de rock et à l´âge
de 16 ans se tourne de plus en plus vers le jazz. Il joue du jazz en duo
avec son professeur et donne ses premiers concerts.
De 1991 à 1995, il est élève, à l´école
de jazz de Saint-Gall, de Peter Eigenmann. Puis il obtient une bourse
de Berklee et passe un an au Berklee College of Music de Boston. Il reçoit
l´enseignement de professeurs renommés (Hal Crook, Ed Tomassi,
Rick Peckham, Jim Kelly), joue à la conférence de l´"International
Association of Jazz Educators" à Atlanta (01/1996) et la même
année passe brillamment son examen avec les félicitations
du jury. De retour en Allemagne, il s´installe à Constance,
donne des cours à l´école de musique de Wil, en Suisse,
et donne régulièrement des concerts avec son quartette,
mais aussi avec d´autres formations (du duo au bigband). D´un
point de vue stylistique, son jeu et ses compositions relèvent
d´abord du bop, mais ont largement dépassé ce cadre
ces dernières années. Son travail, sa réflexion sur
l´histoire du jazz et sur le jazz actuel l´ont profondément
marqué et il serait absurde de vouloir le cantonner dans des catégories
trop étroites.
Sept CDs ont confirmé sa réputation,
celle d´un leader et d´un compositeur qui progresse avec persévérance
et sans compromis dans la voie où il s´est engagé

2003),
